While animals are with us, they need human touch. Just imagine how an animal must feel after its family has left them in our care. If the animal is a stray, they may need to learn how a loving touch feels – this is where you can help! As a volunteer, you can walk dogs and play with them, or work on basic obedience and manners. You can sit in one of the cat rooms for a while and offer love and attention – offering human touch and gentle voice can be a wonderful comfort to a stressed animal. You could also help the staff with the morning cleaning, bathe animals, or greet the public in the afternoon. There are so many ways you can help make a difference in the lives of our animals!
*You must be 16 years or older to volunteer without adult supervision. If you are under 16 and would like to volunteer, we require that an adult come with you and stay with you as you help.

Foster VOlunteer
There are times when an animal at Lucy Mackenzie would benefit from spending time in
a foster home. Whether they are recovering from injury or illness, need additional
socialization, or are new to this world and need a little extra TLC, our foster volunteers
can make all the difference in an animal’s life.
Additionally, we’re seeking individuals and families that are interested in becoming part
of our emergency foster network. Our goal is to help facilitate emergency foster services
for companion animals within our community when their owners are faced with
extenuating circumstances.
If you are interested in becoming a foster volunteer, please complete our Foster
Application and email it to [email protected] or mail it to us at PO Box 702,
Brownsville, VT 05037. You can specify the type of animal and situation you’re
interested in fostering on the application.
A member of our team will be in touch to finalize your application once we have
received it. After your application is approved, we will reach out to you when a fostering
match comes along. Needless to say, fostering needs vary greatly throughout the year.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly if you have any questions. Call us at 802-
484-5829 and we’d be happy to discuss!
