SHELTER VETERINARIAN
Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in West Windsor, VT is seeking a Shelter Veterinarian to join our team! 

The Shelter Veterinarian provides high-quality medical and surgical care for our animals, and is responsible for the overall medical management of the animals at Lucy Mackenzie, with a focus on population health and infectious disease control. The Shelter Veterinarian develops, implements, and enforces health protocols to ensure sound veterinary medical practices while collaborating with shelter staff to optimize animal welfare and placement. 

This position currently entails being on-site for two days a week (approx. 12 – 14 hours weekly) in addition to providing remote support, as needed. 

Key Responsibilities 
– Surgical procedures, including spay/neuter, dentals, soft-tissue surgeries, and emergency triage
– Population health & disease control: Establishes and oversees protocols for vaccination, parasite control and sanitation; Manages outbreaks of infectious disease and educates shelter staff on protocols 
– Medical Examinations and Diagnostics: Conducts intake exams to assess health and utilizes diagnostic tools to identify illnesses and develop treatment plans
– Case Management: Maintains accurate written and electronic medical records. 

Requirements & Qualifications

– Must be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA-accredited institution
– Must be currently licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Vermont
– Possession of a valid DEA license for controlled substance management
– Preferred experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter clinics
– Familiarity with Association of Shelter Veterinarian (ASV) Guidelines
– Strong interpersonal communication, willingness to train

ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN
Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society is seeking a self-motivated, multi-tasking individual to join our team. If you love animals and people, this may just be the job for you!

The primary functions of this position are to provide quality care to our animals, assist the public and maintain the cleanliness of the shelter.
We are currently hiring for a full-time and part-time position. The exact days are TBD.

Basic Responsibilities Include:

· Daily cleaning of assigned area (dog kennels, cat rooms or intake area)
· Feeding animals
· Medicating and treating animals, as needed
· Providing customer assistance in person, on the phone, and in email correspondences
· Introducing animals to visitors, and making recommendations on possible adoptions
· Providing animals with enrichment and training
· Documenting health of animals and reporting abnormalities and concerns as instructed
· Processing surrender and stray requests
· Assisting with intake of new animals
· Processing adoption applications
· Performing other duties as assigned
· Replenishing area supplies
· Maintaining cleanliness of facility and property

Minimum Qualifications Required:

· Ideal candidates will possess basic knowledge of animal behavior and will have experience in an animal shelter or similar environment.
· Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unaided
· Must be interested in animal sheltering and welfare
· Must be reliable and detail oriented
· Must be 18 years or older
· Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work
